Jones Building 122
SE Morrison The 60,000 sq ft commercial building, with 20,000 sq ft basement, was built for one of Portland’s first retail mail-order houses called Jones Cash Store. The warehouse site was ideally located and suited for the growing mail-order business with its convenient location on the rail line and close to the city’s eastside industrial district. On the National Register of Historic Places, the current owners completed shell and core work to modernize the building after its use for about 60 years as a cold storage warehouse. The original large windows were removed by the cold storage company but have been replaced with modern windows to mitigate traffic noise but maintain the historic industrial look. The façade’s new paint scheme highlights the originally concrete cast-stone ornaments at the roofline.
